Check documents before booking

According to Traficom, a foreign registration certificate must be presented at the registration inspection of a used imported vehicle. For a vehicle imported from an EEA country, both parts of a two-part certificate are generally required. Case-specific procedures apply to missing documents and should be checked in advance.

Tell the station these details

• VIN, make, model and date of first use.
• Country of import and whether the vehicle has previously been registered.
• Which parts of the registration certificate and technical documents you already have.
• Any CoC certificate, foreign inspection certificate and information about structural modifications.

What happens after the inspection?

A registration inspection establishes the vehicle's technical data and compliance. Taxation, motor liability insurance and first registration must also be handled according to their own procedures. Ask the station in advance which matters can be completed during the same visit.

Car tax and annual vehicle tax are different

An imported car can undergo a registration inspection before car tax is paid. However, registration in Finland requires the car tax to have been paid and credited to the Tax Administration. Car tax is paid through MyTax; annual vehicle tax is paid to Traficom.
