You can move your vehicle inspection to your preferred time of year by having it carried out earlier. If the inspection is carried out on the last day of the inspection interval or during the preceding 30 days, the next date does not change. The inspection dates for category O2 trailers are determined separately by calendar year.
If you have the inspection during the last 30 days
When an inspection is passed on the last day of the inspection interval or during the preceding 30 days, the next inspection date remains unchanged.
If you have the inspection well in advance
If you take your car for inspection earlier than this, the next due date is determined by the new date on which the inspection is passed. This allows you to deliberately move the inspection from winter to summer, for example.
The 30-day rule does not give you extra time
The rule concerns the date from which the next due date is calculated. It does not give you a 30-day extension after the current due date. Changing the time of year means having the inspection early: if the due date is in winter and you want future visits to be in summer, the inspection is carried out during the preceding summer.
Before bringing the inspection forward, check the car’s age and inspection interval. An interval of up to two years for a younger passenger car and an annual inspection for an older car do not result in the same next due date. The 9–10-year age threshold also affects the calculation. You can find the confirmed due date for your car on the inspection certificate or in Traficom’s vehicle information.
Example
If the annual inspection is due on 19.11. and the car passes between 20.10.–19.11., the next due date remains 19.11. If the car passes on 10.8., for example, the next due date moves to August.
If you want to keep your current inspection month, use the last 30 days. If you want to change the season, deliberately have the inspection carried out earlier.
Before you book an appointment
- Check the current last permissible inspection date in Traficom’s Oma asiointi service, on the inspection certificate or in the technical section of the registration certificate.
- Decide whether you want to keep the current timing or bring it forward. If you want to keep the date, calculate the 30-day period from that exact due date.
- Also leave room in your calendar to investigate and repair any faults. Waiting until the last possible day leaves you with a tight schedule.
- After passing the inspection, check the new due date on the certificate and update your reminder accordingly.
The date 19.11. in the example is the due date for an imaginary car. The calendar image in the article does not show your own car’s inspection date. If you are unsure of the timing, ask the inspection station before booking how your planned visit date will affect your particular vehicle’s next inspection.
