Periodic inspection

A periodic inspection checks the vehicle's condition and registered information and verifies that taxes and statutory charges relating to the vehicle have been paid. Inspection of a vehicle up to 3,500 kg costs €40; the emissions test is priced separately.

Before your visit

Must vehicle tax be paid before inspection?

Yes. Overdue vehicle tax and late-payment interest must be paid. A prohibition of use caused by unpaid tax prevents approval of the inspection. Future instalments do not need to be paid early.

  • An acceptable emissions test certificate issued elsewhere and no more than three months old.

€40 inspection or online package from €59?

€40 is the periodic inspection price for a vehicle up to 3,500 kg. If the vehicle also needs an emissions test, both are included in the inspection package. The online package starts from €59; the final price is shown before you confirm the booking.

A fully electric vehicle does not require an exhaust emissions test. Reading consumption data from newer combustion-engine and hybrid vehicles is a separate procedure; check any applicable fee before confirming.

Good to know before booking

What is included in the €40 price?

The price covers the periodic inspection of a vehicle up to 3,500 kg. Emissions testing and any re-inspection are priced separately. For a vehicle under 3,500 kg, inspection and emissions testing can be booked together as an online package from €59.

Can someone else bring my vehicle?

Someone other than the owner may bring the vehicle for a standard periodic inspection. Bring the key and any service-specific documents.

What happens if the vehicle fails?

Repair the defects that caused the rejection as soon as possible and take the vehicle for re-inspection within 1 month. The re-inspection deadline is not the same as permission to use the vehicle in traffic; check the decision on the inspection certificate.

How long does an inspection take?

If you have booked an appointment and arrive on time, a periodic inspection for a car or van takes about 15–20 minutes. We cannot guarantee the duration of a drive-in visit. The time needed for heavy vehicles and specialist services is agreed separately.
